nicburch Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 Can anyone link the 71st Div. ammunition column RFA, with the 15th Division in March/April 1918?
rflory Posted 10 November , 2005 Share Posted 10 November , 2005 I think it is most likely that the unit to which you refer is the 71st Brigade Ammunition Column, RFA. Up through early 1916 each RFA brigade in an infantry division had a brigade ammunition column, RFA (BAC) which bore the same number as the RFA brigade. The Divisional Artillery had four RFA brigades during that period: 70, 71, 72 and 73 How Brigade, RFA and four brigade ammunition columns: 70, 71, 72 and 73 BAC, RFA. On 22 May 1916 the four BACs, including the 71st BAC, RFA were abolished and reorganized as part of the 15th Divisional Ammunition Column (DAC). Regards.
