Lost in Tilloy Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 Hi I'm posting this topic having read the interesting forum article on the up and coming 'Finding the Fallen' series. As one of my relatives was lost at, or just after, the Battle Arras I have a personal interest in finding out more about Great War Archaeology. I would like to ask Forum members 4 questions: (1) How can I find out about what Great War Archaeology [GWA] has already been done? (2) How can I find out what GWA is currently on the go? (3) How can novices such as myself get involved in doing GWA on the old battlefields? (4) On a more personal note, does anyone know of any GWA, past or present, that has been/is being, done near the village of Tilloy-lez-Mofflanies which lies to the south east of Arras? Bert Heyvaert Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 I'd say: - Have a look at www.a-w-a.be and get in contact with the webmaster, who will be able to answer most of your questions regarding Belgium. - contact Martin Brown, forum member. - contact Frans, forum member and member of the diggers. Apart from them there is also battlefield archaeology being done by the A.W.A., I would say the Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917 is a good adress to ask about their past/coming activities. There is also A.B.A.C., but I have no contact information for them. In France there are quite a few amateur groups active as well, but I don't really have much view on this. Best Regards, Bert
Davy Maclean Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 Have a look here mostly WW2 but some stuff from WW1 does turn up and some great links off it as well. BTW did you see the program on Channel 4 a few years ago about the lads who were opening up the tunnels/dug outs some of the stuff they found like personal artifacts were in remarkable condidtion sadly not long after the program finished one of them fella's died when the dugout/tunnel colapsed in on him
