Jerrymurland Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 Trying to piece together my maternal grandfather's service. After Sussex Yeomanry in Gallipoli and Egypt as Private soldier he was commisioned into RAF 23.7.18. Found his service records at that point as they were RAF. Can't decipher some of it though! He was at IGS FS on 1.4.18 57 FS on 23.7.18. Injured in flying accident on 18.3.18. Then it seems he was at the Cadre Depot on 19.10.18. Then 23TDS on 2.12.18. FS presumably flying school, anyone hepl with: TDS, IGS? Where would these flying training schools have been located? I have some very interesting photos he took of aircraft etc.
Dolphin Posted 21 November , 2005 Share Posted 21 November , 2005 Jerry No 23 Training Depot Station was part of the RAF's 3rd Training Wing, in No 11 (Irish) Group, and was based at Baldonnell and equipped with the DH 9 and Avro 504. FS usually stands for Fighting School, but I don't know of one with such a high number. I hope that this helps. Gareth
Jerrymurland Posted 21 November , 2005 Author Share Posted 21 November , 2005 Gareth thanks for that, most useful. Have a look at the pics in this thread: It would seem the DH9 and 504s were taken at 23TDS. What do you think? Jerry
