wroclaw Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 I'll be attending the Ramla (Ramleh) cemetery and ceremony this Sunday, and would later take some pictures of the NZ MR section of the Ayun Kara action casualties. If the weather would be anything then rainy (which it should) I'll have about an hour of "spare" time. For any special requests of photos of any other help just tell me. There's a little chance of me getting also to the ceremony in Jerusalem mt. Scopus the day before – if I'll get there I could take pictures on request there too. regards

Scopos tomorrow, since the ceremony would take place at 09:30 and its quite difficult to get there from where I live by public transportation... PPCLI Posted 12 November , 2005 Share Posted 12 November , 2005 Hi wroclaw, I am researching a battalion of the King's Own Scottish Borderers. There are almost 30 graves of interest to me at Ramleh, but I have tried to whittle them down. Most of the following men were with the original unit that landed at Gallipoli in June 1915 and took part and survived the charge on the 12th July: Pte. Nelson Davidson, 240977 – P.26 L/Cpl. W. PPCLI Posted 13 November , 2005 Share Posted 13 November , 2005 You could go ahead with all 30 names; I guess I could take them too if they are already in the sections mentioned above. Very good of you to take the trouble (a bit of an understatement really!). I am posting the rest of the 1/5th Bn. KOSB burials, plus two from the 1/4th Bn. who were born near my home. If you can get them all that would be great (I'm not likely to ever get there myself), but please don't put yourself out. A lot of them do seem to be grouped in the one area. Pte. wroclaw Posted 13 November , 2005 Author Share Posted 13 November , 2005 Done… It was a rather hot day and even those of us not wearing "Savil row" suites, had felt the impacts of the sun, so I need to have a good rest and refill my water reservoirs. It was an impressive ceremony, attendant by dozens of ambassadors, military attaches and old veterans. I took all photos requested and add them at night. Bye

wroclaw Posted 14 November , 2005 Author Share Posted 14 November , 2005 The annual ceremony had taken place, Nov. the 13th at sunny morning. This is the main CWGC ceremony in Israel, and many ambassadors are attending. Religious figures of several churches were also present and also representatives of the IDF. Speeches by several figures were lasting about an hour, talking among other things, about the vanishing veterans of the great wars and hurrying us to keep listening to their story. Military and diplomatic representatives included all countries involved in the war (and nearly all European countries that were founded\refounded after the war). wroclaw Posted 14 November , 2005 Author Share Posted 14 November , 2005 Finally a question: Does anybody know what the meaning behind "MIZPAH" is?
KONDOA Posted 14 November , 2005 Share Posted 14 November , 2005 Thankyou Wroclaw for looking for and photographing Private Patterson's grave. He joined up with my father who was more fortunate. I believe Mizpah means home or at rest in a wide sense. Many villages have it as a prefix. Roop
TD60 Posted 14 November , 2005 Share Posted 14 November , 2005 Hello Many many thanks for your photos. A great success ! I have imaginad it will be very very hard to have gravestones photo from there and with yoiur help it was possible. Well done and thanks again Nice also to share this event with us. Why remembrance day is the 13th nov. and not the 11th there ? I am impressed by the number of countries represented there . I wonder if there are many ceremonies with so much countries. And unexpected in this area ! Great job ! Mizpah was already discussed in a post some month ago. I have had the same question. Here is the meaning extracted from the thread: Meaning: watch-tower; the look-out A place in Gilead, so named by Laban, who overtook Jacob at this spot (Gen. 31:49) on his return to Palestine from Padan-aram. Here Jacob and Laban set up their memorial cairn of stones. It is the same as Ramath-mizpeh (Josh. 13:26).
