Peter Beckett Posted 12 August , 2003 Share Posted 12 August , 2003 Can anyone identify this object found on the west side of High Wood near the switch trench site. It appears to be copper by the green patina and may also have a pressed or rolled design. Rear view Peter
AOK4 Posted 12 August , 2003 Share Posted 12 August , 2003 Hello, It's a part of a Bavarian Reservist's Helmet plate. I'll post a scan of a complete helmet plate later. Regards, Jan
AOK4 Posted 12 August , 2003 Share Posted 12 August , 2003 Attached you see a scan of an active soldier's helmet plate. Reservists had on the central wappen a Reservist's Cross (for which four holes were to be made in the central wappen). I hope my explanation is understandable... Tom Morgan Posted 12 August , 2003 Share Posted 12 August , 2003 And you recognised that from just that one fragment?? Jan - you really know your Bavarian Reservists' Helmet-plates! Tom
AOK4 Posted 12 August , 2003 Share Posted 12 August , 2003 Hello, It's the central piece that did it (and my experience with battlefield finds), it has the typical chequered bavarian pattern (blue/white IRL). Jan

Peter Beckett Posted 12 August , 2003 Author Share Posted 12 August , 2003 Jan, you are truly fantastic. When I found the fragment with Tom Morgon we almost had a bet that someone on the Forum would be able to identify it. What we didn't expect was that a reply would be so soon and so accurate. Well Done!! Peter
Peter Beckett Posted 12 August , 2003 Author Share Posted 12 August , 2003 Further to Jans identification and his supplied picture, it appears that I have the labels the wrong way round. The front piece view is actually the rear view. Silly me
