Guest lainee Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 I have a photo in my possession and have no idea who the photo is of I had Great Grand Relative that was listed with the Cheshire Regiment 2nd Battalion and was killed in action 1915 in France. I would like to know if anyone can identify this uniform
DrB Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 These three appear to be Royal Artillery types, hat badges, bandoleers, spurs, etc and the chap on the left is wearing what appears to be a gun layers badge on his arm. The Cheshire Regt, Regulars that is, wore a white metal, eight pointed star with a gilding metal acorn and leaves in the center and a white metal, title scroll beneath. NeilD Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 Hi, The gentleman seated looks like he's from one of the London regiments possible the Artist Rifles. The cap badge looks like Mars & Minerva. NeilD

The cap badge looks like Mars & Minerva. NeilD <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it's a trick of the light, Neil. All gunners, I would say. What's the badge on the arm of the guy on the left? Lewis Gunner? NeilD Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 Steve, I bow to your eagle eyes. Another give-away are the white lanyards on their left shoulders - I should have spotted them!! NeilD
Rob B Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 Certainly all Roayal Artillery with lanyards, cross belts and the classic cap badge. But is that a Lewis Gunner on the sleeve as its not really a main stream RA function. Rob
Staffsyeoman Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 It's not a Lewis Gunner (that says 'LG') ; it is actually 'L' for Gun Layer.
Rob B Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 Phil, Thanks I thought it had to be main stream RA as LG jut seemed a wee bit off beam. Thanks, Rob
Gunboat Posted 9 November , 2005 Share Posted 9 November , 2005 I think the Shoulder titles say RFA looks like that to me anyway
