Can anybody help me ID this guy's regiment and brigade? 'Looks to be a sphinx in the center of the collar dog. The photo was taken in France (no name, unfortunately).

Many thanks,

Pat

Pat,

Not sure of the Regt but probably one of the County regiments (possibly Gloucestershire). This gentleman is the holder of the Military Medal though.

Don't know much a bout collar dogs, but it looks (possibly) Lincoln-ish? 8th Battalion?

Looks like the Devonshire Regt, but I haven't my badge book with me to confirm. The 8 in a diamond is a scheme the 42nd Div adopted, so maybe 8th Manchesters? The medal ribbon is definately a Military Cross. I'll come back and confirm the badge a little later.

He is wearing Lincolnshire collar badges, not Devonshire.

The Lincs wore the Sphynix within the circle, the Devons wore the castle.

Gosh - I was right! 8th Lincs were in37th Divn, so do we think it's them, then?

this "we" does too! ;) [Lincs that is!]

Lincolnshire Regt Officers wore this badge{only larger} as a Cap badge too!

Gentlemen,

Allow me to hang my head in shame. I meant to say he was the holder of the Military Cross and not the MM. In mitigation I was in a rush last night!! I said it was a county Regiment jus wasn't sure which one ;)

We knew what you meant and any one can make a simple mistake at that hour of the morning.
