RE Sapper's belt

Here is a section of a picture of my grandfather, who was a sapper in the RE.

His belt buckle looks quite fancy, indeed the belt looks to be different than standard issue.

Anyone venture an opinion on the belt? He enlisted in Nov 1915 and was demobbed in 1919. This picture would date from around the time of enlistment or

shortly thereafter.

His father had served some 20 years with the RE in the latter part of the 1800's.

Ian,

The belt is probably part of either the 82 or 88 pattern valise equipment.

These were common issue, especially at the beginning of the war when other stocks were low.
