Remembered Today:

Military Medal help needed!

Andrew Upton

Recommended Posts

My Mum's sent me the following information on a number of our Australian family members who were awarded the MM (and subsequently bars!), and asking me for any further information.

However, this is really out of my scope of expertise, and I was wondering if anyone on the Forum would be able to help me, or point me in the right direction as to where I should look next?

I should point out that I have seen the accompanying PDF files for the first half of the information, and will try and attach later if possible.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew Upton.

I believe the same site has Australian Service Documents available to download,which may just possibly shed some light on the MM Recommendations{ie a Citation} & also the London Gazette wil have these wards promulgated{Just a listed confirmation of award buy name/number/Regiment/Rank;but no further information},but this may involve a bit of a search {Which @ least you can reduce by the dating of the recommendation}

Thanks for the reply, I would have posted sooner, but I couldn't access the site for some reason!

I'll pass the first bit on to my Mum, but how would one go about searching the London Gazette? Is there an online version?

All the best,

Andrew.

Last post just got eaten...

Online London Gazette is here:

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveSe...e=0&Referer=WW1

Densley gives 3 results:

1 x Gloucestershire Reg. + W Densley MM & Bar

MM

Gazette 4-2-1918

1236 Gnr. W. Densley, F.A.

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...&selHonourType=

Bar

Gazette 12-6-1918

1236 Bombr. W. Densley, M.M., Aust. F.A.

(M.M.'s gazetted 4th February, 1918.)

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/archiveVi...&selHonourType=

You will need full names for DCMs.

Citations for MMs are not in the Gazette.

Steve.

Thanks for the help Steve, I'll pass the information on.

Unfortunately for me, this means that there are probably some very expensive medal groups out there which I'll have to start looking for now!

Andrew

In case you are interested there is a historian in South Australia who is writing the history of the 32nd Battalion. He may have some info on the Densley in the 32nd Bn.

If you are interested I can pass on his details to you.

Regards

Andrew
