The Tyneside Irish Battalions

Guest A Mafia Man

Being a relative new-comer to the Great War period of military history, can anyone confirm for me what the 'official' cap badges were for the Tyneside Irish battalions of the Northumberland Fusiliers please ?

Whilst trawling around EBay I notice numerous badges on offer for this battalion, (Plus others such as the Cardiff Pals Bn's), but surely these are only the collar-dogs ? I always assumed that they wore the Northumberland Fusiliers cap badge, plus their own distinctive collar dogs ! (I can understand the arguements that it was cheaper for a man to put a collar-dog in your cap if he lost his cap badge, or whatever), or is this the correct badge ?

Am I wrong ?

Any help, guidance, or indeed information as to where to find out the answer to this question, that has been bugging me for a while now, would be gratefully received.

Joe:

I have collected a great deal of information on the Tyneside Irish as part of my research on my grandfather. You can find this on my site (check out the links page for direct links to the Tyneside):

I have all the buttons and badges from my grandfathers kit and so I took a photo of what cap badge was in the box.

If I have done this correctly, the image should be attached or if not I have posted it on my web site at:
