Grasmere War Memorial

I found this memorial in Grasmere, Cumbria last week which I found unusual in that it did not list any names.

As far as I am aware, Grasmere was not a "Thankful Village".

SDGW lists nine men residing in the village. The memorial looks as though it's in a park or something. Could there be another memorial in the churchyard and the one you saw is something "secular"?

John,

I had a look around (as I usually do) but found no other memorial. I may well have overlooked one though.

It could be the memorial is in the Parish Church. I know of several such including Christ Church Warley and All Saints Theydon Garnon. The majority of memorials would appear to be outside the consecrated grounds to allow for the names of those who were not Christian etc but in some cases as above they are actually in the Church

The only memorial, other than the one in your photograph, that I could find was the one in the church.

As we were there for two weeks earlier in the year, I feel that I exhausted any other possibility of finding any other.

As you can see there are 25 men remembered on the memorial. (Sorry, that should read "24 men and one fair lady")

If you would like a larger, clearer photo PM me with your e-mail.

Kind regards

John

John,

Thank you for your pics - I never entered the church although I went through the cemetery.

The mystery is solved. :P
