theatre of war a/839

Theatre of War is France (Numbered 1). He arrived in France on 17.12-1915.

The A/839 Reference is "SWB List" - Silver War Badge. Given to those that were discharged from the Army as physically unfit for further duty though wounds, sickness, etc.

The Medal Rolls for these still exist at th NA and can be referenced to find out his date on enlistment and discharge, plus occasionally further information about his discharge.

Looking at his date to France he may well have been with either the 8th or 9th Service Battalions (16th Division) but that is just a guess!!
