Where/why did the British use the M1, tell tell!!!!!

The Commandos (maybe others too) used them in OPeration Torch the invasion of French North Africa - at the time the Vichy French had high anti-British feeling - whipped up by the Germans about things like Dunkirk and the sinking of the French fleet, so it was fell best to equip the British soldiers in US kit (just the basics though) for the landings as the French troops were more likely to surrender without a fight to the Americans. I am not sure uf that is what is being refered to - other than that I guess their were instances of odds and ends of use but not on an official basis as far as I know.
