Michael Posted 16 October , 2005 Share Posted 16 October , 2005 Does anyone know where the plans of RN warships are held? Mick
Bruce Dennis Posted 16 October , 2005 Share Posted 16 October , 2005 Mick, The first place to try should always be the National Maritime Museum on 0208 312 6599. They have huge a collection of ships plans held in a seperate archive, with copy facilities. Depending on whether you need the original plans or simply good general arrangement drawings, there are cheaper alternatives. Let me know if you want more info. Good luck, Bruce
Michael Posted 18 October , 2005 Author Share Posted 18 October , 2005 Thanks Bruce. It's the original plans I'm after so I'll see what they have at Greenwich Mick
historydavid Posted 18 October , 2005 Share Posted 18 October , 2005 Michael, the builders of the ships you are interested in may be able to help you. "Janes" will supply the names, or if you don't have a copy, let me know the ship names. Best wishes David
Bob H Posted 18 October , 2005 Share Posted 18 October , 2005 Mick This is a link to the National Maritime Museums collection of plans. http://www.nmm.ac.uk/server/show/conWebDoc.238 Regards Bob
Michael Posted 18 October , 2005 Author Share Posted 18 October , 2005 David The ships I'm looking at are a bunch of Flower Class Corvettes built in Aberdeen during WW2. The Maritime Museum in Aberdeen has been contacted, but they were next to useless. I hadn't thought of the builders. I've got their details so I'll see if they exist in some form. Michael Posted 18 October , 2005 Author Share Posted 18 October , 2005 Nice link Bob, perhaps I should have looked a bit deeper myself. The NMM collection looks ideal as it includes machinery specs and calculations. Mick
