recently on Ebay I brought a very unusual and very beautiful silk postcard of Edith Cavell. I will see if I can get an image and put it up.

Shame the embroidery doesn't show up on my postcard that I posted previously. It is so detailed.

Found another picture.

This is a German soldier named Rimmler.

He was shot for refusing to fire on

Edith Cavell.

Dear all

If you are interested in more reading, there is a good book by Katie Pickles, a New Zealand historian, about the death and commemoration of Edith Cavell.

Another local soldier George Kershaw, also commented in the local church Magazine dated December 1915 thus

"They are going mad to go down to the front to avenge the good Nurse Miss Cavell and I pity the Germans who come into contact with the lads"

In INVERNESS in SCOTLAND there is a EDITH CAVELL MEMORIAL GARDENS located beside the INVERNESS WAR MEMORIAL at the side of the River Ness .

The War Memorial and the Edith Cavell memorial gardens are well maintained all year round.

See also the Scottish War Memorials project website and under the Highlands (region) Individual memorials section and it shows photographs of this well maintained Edith Cavell Memorial gardens in Inverness Scotland

This monument too - in Norwich, as no one has posted a pic of it here.

Mystery surrounds the reason for the north’s long-held bond with the Norfolk-born nurse. But the respect for her heroism appears as strong as it was in 1919 when councillors in Inverness decided to create a memorial garden in her honour.

Today.

I prefer the grave as it was when I first saw it about 1970, to be honest. Will try to lay hands on a picture of that shortly.
