The grave is already kerbed and with a stone cross headstone on a pedestal. My understanding is that if a grave is already suitably marked with a private headstone the CWGC will not normally add one of theirs, too. The one that is there is quite adequate for the purpose. I need a photograph of the grave of Lady Harriet Sarah Wantage who is buried in Holy Trinity churchyard, Ardington. She died on the 9th August 1920, aged 83. She was a VAD. James Morley Posted 24 September , 2019 Share Posted 24 September , 2019 Jim, you may be interested to see a little hidden feature of my A Street Near You site which allows filtering to just the women - https://astreetnearyou.org/#=undefined&lat=10&lon=0&zoom=2&sex=female As CWGC don't have the gender I have had to extrapolate the list from service details like rank, hence it's rather incomplete (currently about 900 records). Of these about 100 have have portraits, mainly from the IWM's Women's Work collection. I'd be interested if you have a more comprehensive list of CWGC links as that would really help me improve the records. Back to the OP, if you wanted to send through what you need for Ealing I'd be happy to try to help. Best, James

My own listing started back around 2000 when a gentleman from the CWGC sent me a list that he had produced for his own interest by using the CWGC computer and downloading all those casualties who died whilst serving in women only units and then adding a search for "mother of, wife of or daughter of". I now know this to be terribly incomplete. I moved onto the names on the York Minster panels. Even these are incomplete with, in particular, many hundreds of VADs missing from them. As for Ealing I need a photograph from Ealing and Brentford Cemetery where Edith Mary Carter is buried in grave 46, section N, ground D. She was interred on the 24th December 1917 so would have died earlier that month. Also a photograph of the headstone of Lena Desmond, VAD, who died in February 1920 and is buried in grave 8S, New.Cem. R.C., ground D division, Ealing and Old Brentford cemetery. Also the headstone of Esme Blanche Lion, VAD, who died on the 6th March 1915 and is buried in plot A 26 & 27 in Ealing and Old Brentford cemetery. Also the headstone of Laura Walsh, VAD, who died on the 31st January 1918, aged 50. She is buried in grave 24, section F, Div.I, New Cemetery, Ealing and Old Brentford cemetery. I am fairly confident that I found the area, D8S in the new cemetery, where Lena Desmond would have been buried, but there is sadly no headstone For Esme Blanche Lion there is not enough detail to be sure where this is and I didn't have time to explore possibilities. It says 'Plot A 26 & 27' but that could be Ground A (which could be either the one in the old or the new cemetery!) or it could be Row A in any one of the Grounds! Laura Walsh took a little while to track down as the numbering and rows aren't logical in that area, but she has a nice grave in a lovely setting under a tree

James, I have gone back and found the Burial Register on Ancestry. I am sorry that I did not give full details before. She is in grave 26 and 27, Ground Division C. con. The reason that it covers two plots is because thater are four incumbents - two in one and two in the other. It is an earth grave in a brick grave space. The register states that the grave is fully entombed (whatever that means). The incumbants are Annie Louis Lion (buried 13th January 1899, aged 31), Esma Blanche Lion (buried 8th March 1915, aged 23), John Lion (buried 21st January 1938, aged 84) and Harriet Frances Milvain Lion (buried 21st May 1943, aged 84). I hope that this helps.
