waltman Posted 7 October , 2005 Share Posted 7 October , 2005 If a university educated product of a listed public school had presented himself in London in October 1914 for service, where would he have been sent first? Was there a prescribed period of training? What was that training like? Where were some of the training sites? When was the typical new Lieutenant assigned to a particular Battalion? Keegan reports that public school officers were often assigned to Battalions from the most populated and industrialized regions. Were new officers given any choices to make about their assignments? When did the meeting of new Lieutenents and their New Army platoons generally take place? Were officers responsible for buying their own uniforms? Are there any sites on the Web that contain first-hand accounts of this entire process? Best, Will Altman
