matthew_family_research Posted 2 August , 2003 Share Posted 2 August , 2003 Hello all. Could someone please tell me what the above means (in the title). What does it mean when a Corps is 'attached' to a Batallion? And, I have looked and looked for details of the 8th Bn but can't seem to find it. Please help! My line of research follows someone who was and Armr S/Sgt of the above Corps. He died of wounds France 10 March 1915, and although his place of burial is unknown his name is recorded on Le Touret Memorial (panel 47), Le Touret Military Cemetary, Richebourg-l’Avoue, France. Does anyone know where his unit was when he died, or how I can find out? Thanks!
Terry_Reeves Posted 2 August , 2003 Share Posted 2 August , 2003 Your man was in the Army Ordnance Corps attatched to this infantry battalion as an individual. If he was an armourer, he was with them to repair and maintain their weapons. Terry Reeves

Paul Reed Posted 3 August , 2003 Share Posted 3 August , 2003 Your soldier died in the Battle of Neuve Chapelle, which was the first British offensive of the First World War. There is a very good book on this by Geoff Bridger (in fact the only book on the battle). Details of it here: http://battlefields1418.50megs.com/neuve_chapelle.htm
