Doug Lewis Posted 30 July , 2003 Share Posted 30 July , 2003 Could anyone provide any information(war diary or pointing in the right direction to find it) on the 2nd Btn East Yorkshire Regiment and there part in the fighting around the Hohenzollern Redoubt 28th & 29th Sept 1915. Ive looked on the mother site and that has given a very good overview of 83 Brigade 28 Divisions involvement but I would like to narrow it down to East Yorks involvement. Thanks Doug
Chris Posted 30 July , 2003 Share Posted 30 July , 2003 Hi Doug. Whilst i am not sure where the Battalion War Diary is held, the new Battleground Europe, Loos - Hohenzollern, book by Andrew Rawson gives some details of the 2nd East Yorks involvement. Another place you could look for info is at Hull City Library. They hold the Hull and North Lincolnshire Times on microfilm, and this contains lots of stories about soldiers involved inthe battle as well as casulty info etc. I have used the same source to help research the 1/5th Lincs involvement in the Hohenzollern attacks, and it is an extremely interesting resource. Max Posted 2 August , 2003 Share Posted 2 August , 2003 Hello Doug According to the 83rd Brigade diary the 2nd Bn East Yorks where attached to the 7th Division: "Noyelles 28 Sept-15 2.10 am - G.1. 32 received and 2/E. Yorks Regt ordered to VERMELLES CHURCH. 3.10am 2/E Yorks Regt detached to come under orders of the 7th Divn" With this in mind it may be helpfull to investigate the 7th Divisions war diary for the period you are interested in.
