jim_davies Posted 29 July , 2003 Share Posted 29 July , 2003 Wondered if anyone knows where this company was serving mid-to late 1917. The thread of the "Transylvania" got me interested as Fred Fracy (the only Fracy in the CGWC records) is shown on the Savona Memorial and was serving with this unit. There's a little different info on the destination of the ship. The CWGC says "On 4 May 1917, the Hired Transport "Transylvania", proceeding to Salonika with reinforcements, was sunk by torpedo off Cape Vado, a few kilometres south of Savona, with the loss of more than 400 lives." Whereas other sources show Egypt to be the next port of call. Any ideas ? Jim
Terry_Reeves Posted 29 July , 2003 Share Posted 29 July , 2003 Jim The Transylvania's ultimate destination was Alexandria. 906 Compamy was formed on 20th February 1917 and was to serve in Egypt with 52 (Auxiliary) Petrol Company. jim_davies Posted 31 July , 2003 Author Share Posted 31 July , 2003 Thanks Terry, I guess from Alex, the men would be forwarded to their respective units. From the couple of other men I've found their parent units were located across the Med theatre, including Egypt, Palestine, Mespot and Salonkia. Cheers, Jim
