Remembered Today:

Leading a unit into the line

Recommended Posts

Have often read this phrase over the years where a man from one regt would guide others into position.

Researching a man who got a MM for doing this under shellfire.

Just wondered if anyone knows of any criteria for this, would men be specially trained or would anyone who was on the spot at the time with the relevant local knowledge have been selected.?

My understanding is that runners of the outgoing unit were selected for this task since they had the best knowledge of the layout of the trenches.
