Hi All

I wonder if anyone can help me with some information regarding the whereabouts of the 2 King's Own Scottish Borderers on the 25th September 1916. I have a friend tracing his family tree who has found reference to an uncle killed at, he believes, Thiepval on this date. I know that this area was attacked on the 26th but not as far as I know by this unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2nd KOSB, 13th Brigade, 5th Division

To front line facing Falfemont Farm (10/9), Carnoy area (13/9), support positions north of The Quadrilateral (18/9). Attached to the 95th Brigade for Battle of Morval (25/9) - passed through 1st Devonshire and into southern half of village. War Diary notes that nearly every man secured a trophy. Regimental Historian - Captain Stair Gillon records that in accordance with orders, Battalion did not continue the advance but lay on the outskirts of the captured village taking pot shots at the Germans retiring through Combles. Relieved and to Citadel (26/9). Entrained to Hallencourt area (27/9). Entrained at Abbeville for Lillers (1/10).

Source British Battalions on the Somme by Ray Westlake.

Hope this helps.
