Hello,

Could some kind person please check two names in either the 1901 or 1891 census? They are brothers Frank Trippick aged 15 on the 1901 census, from Shepton Mallet, Somerset. I’m trying to prove that he’s actually Pte 6971 Francis J. Trippick, Somerset Light Infantry.

Also if there is a middle name or initial for his brother Frederick aged 6. (Hoping he’s either Gunner 34345 Frederick E. Trippick, RGA or Gunner 29070 Frederick W. Trippick, RFA).

Also if someone could supply details of a Thomas Trippick also from Shepton Mallet.

Many thanks,

Duncan.

Duncan,

On the 1901 census, Frank Trippick is listed in Ashwick, All Saints Oakhill in Shepton Mallet. The family live at 206 Oakhill, and there is no middle intiail for him, or for Frederick, I'm afraid.

No Thomas Trippick listed at that address in 1901.

I'm afraid there are no middle names or initials for either in 1901 Census

These are Free BMD matches however:-

Births Mar 1886

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TRIPPICK Francis John Shepton M. 5c 505

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Births Jun 1888

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TRIPPICK Frederick Thomas Shepton M. 5c 461

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Births Jun 1891

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trippick Frederick Thomas Langport 5c 383

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Births Sep 1894

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trippick Frederick Ernest Shepton M. 5c 443

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Births Jun 1896

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trippick Frederick William Shepton M. 5c 457

The only way of proving Fred may be to get his birth cert.

In the 1901 census

Frank Trippick b about 1886 Ashwick Somerset

Frederick Trippick b about 1886 Ashwick

Arthur Trippick b about 1895 Ahwick

Father Charles, mother Elizabeth.

Ashwick is a few miles north of Shepton Mallet

Looks like this is not your man.

There is no Thomas Trippick listed in the 1901 census.

Also the only other Frederick has the middle initial T

In the 1881 census there is a Thomas Trippick b about 1843 at Skipton, Somerset. His residence is given as "Hutment Barracks and Hospital Canteen" WestSt., Thotnton in Fylde, Lancashire.

Hope this helps

I can't see Frank Trippick listed at all in 1891, but in searching for his father's name (Charles), there is only one, listed as married, but his wife (and children) are not living with him.

An Elizabeth Trippick (his wife's name from 1901, and age about right) is listed at 83 Neighbourne Farm, Shepton Mallet in 1891, with a son aged 5 - Francis John. This could be your Frank? The names and ages of her other children don't tie up with the brother of the Frank listed in 1901 in my post above - so I think they are two different families.

Can't find a Thomas Trippick in the 1901 census, although there is one from Shepton Mallet in the 1891 census, but born in 1845 - not your man I assume!

Sorry this doesn't help much in solving your mystery - there is no Francis Trippick listed in the 1901 census either.

There's a birth registered for Frederick Ernest Trippick in Q3/1894 in Shepton Mallett.

Also in Shepton Mallett in Q1/1886 is registered the brith of Francis John Trippick.

You'd have to get the certificates to check their parents to confirm if these are the brothers that you're looking for.
