Regimental Abbreviations

Hi all,

In researching army officers who transfered to 20 Squadron RFC, I have come across a lot of abbreviations - most of which I know, but there are some I don't know:

1. IARO

2. DCLI

3. KSLI

4. Duke of W.Reg't (Is that Duke of Wellington?)

5. Another Regiment, given the poor hand-writing, appears to read:

"Hauls Garrison Battalion".

Any ideas please, all welcome.

Bob

IARO = INDIAN ARMY RESERVE OF OFFICERS

DCLI = DUKE OF CORNWALL'S LIGHT INFANTRY

KSLI = KING'S SHROPSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY

Duke of W. Regt = DUKE OF WELLINGTON'S REGIMENT

Hauls Garrison Battalion could possibly be HANTS GARRISON BATTALION

The 1st Hampshire Garrison served on the Western Front from April 1916

Sorry Terry must have started typing before me!

Terry and Heritage,

I'm amazed: the replies come quicker than I could look up the answers in an appropriate book - if I had one! Thanks ever so much, makes my research much easier.
