uncle bill Posted 16 August , 2005 Share Posted 16 August , 2005 just wondered if anyone had seen a similar object. It's a glass covered tea tray with an embroidered VAD badge on a pice of silk with cutoff unit or division ? badges.
redbarchetta Posted 17 August , 2005 Share Posted 17 August , 2005 Bill, Embroidery was a common recuperative pastime for recovering soldiers in hospitals back in Blighty. This was probably made by a soldier for one of the nurses, with a few of the chaps' division patches thrown in to remind her of them !! Quite a nice example - must admit to not having seen one with a VAD crest before, they are usually done of the soldiers own regimental crest - I have a multitude of those, including one that all the VAD nurses have signed on the backing paper, which is nice.
