GrandsonMichael Posted 28 August , 2005 Share Posted 28 August , 2005 I guess that's more or less what it means Andy. The photo was taken through a shell made hole. Cheers, Michael

Robert Dunlop Posted 28 August , 2005 Share Posted 28 August , 2005 Correct. It means " through an opening made by a grenade shell" Or 'high explosive' shell Robert
egbert Posted 28 August , 2005 Share Posted 28 August , 2005 Or 'high explosive' shell Robert <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Robert, German language is full of finesses and Michael is right: if the author says "Granatenloch" it simply means "created by a grenade", he does not distinguish by "high explosive", "gas", "filled with lead balls" etc etc, it could be even a dud. Neil Mackenzie Posted 18 November , 2005 Share Posted 18 November , 2005 Matt. A fabulous set of pictures - thank you so much for sharing them with us. I think the picture you have as number 60 above is one of the Kit and Kat bunkers on the Westhoek-Frezenberg ridge. I am fairly sure that a similar (if not the very same picture) is in the 'Collections' database of the Australian War Memorial site. I have tried to check but cannot seem to access the database at present. Neil
