Ciaran Byrne Posted 20 July , 2003 Share Posted 20 July , 2003 Ok, this is a real long shot but somone may be able to help me. I am looking for a soldier who served during WWI. His name was John Joeseph Emerson (but everyone called him Jonjo) He was from Dublin so I am assuming he served in a local regiment. He served in India before the war and had a letter from Queen Victoria congrautlating him on his expediton to India. He fought in the Somme and was in hospital in Greece during WWI. I originally thought it may have been the Royal Dublin Fusiliers but there is no mention of him on the medal rolls in the PRO. The only John Emersons that served in Irish Regiments fought with the Royal Irish Fusiliers and the Royal Irish Rifles. He is not on the pension records as he reufsed a british Army pension for the (and I quote) the lies they told the people back home of how well the soldiers were living when in reality they were up to their eyes in muck and disease! ...any takers?
