Phew, OK Chris if you need a more detailed account of the action let me know and I will copy the regimental history account. Now you are going to tell me you have this man's DCM just to hack me off :P

Andy,

What can I say? It's a great set of primary documents, and it really does look like he won his DCM at Flers. Don't worry I don't have his medal.

Until a couple of weeks ago, JESSUP A. was just another anonymous name on a memorial. But thanks to you, we can piece together more of his story.

I'm really very grateful for the time you taken searching through your own resources.

Maybe when your not so busy, you could tell me more of the regimental history account.

Regards,

Chris.

Hi Chris,

I don't think that there is any doubt that he won his DCM at Flers. His citation states that he was wounded and in the Battalion casualty returns it says wounded on 15/9/16 when he would have been placed on the books of the 5th (Depot) Battalion, and signed off the strength of the 7th Battalion.

When he was recovered enough to return to duty he would have been placed on the books of the 6th Battalion, hence the transfer to the 8th Battalion where he was killed.

Glad that all this has been of help, also great feeling when you chase something like this through, so enjoyed it. I will copy the Regimental account for you soon.

Chris,

OK, That is the full Regimental Story, hope it's of use to you. Phew, after all that posting I am now going out for a pint.

Sorry that the scans are all over the place, not my strong point all this resizing.
