Is this the same JF from the Bristol area?

When you go to the PRO for the first time and get your readers ticket (it takes fifteen minutes), get there early and take the free guided tour for researchers. It is invaluable and you will otherwise be totally lost and probably waste a large part of your first day.

The PRO index is online (although not easy to use) and you can get reference numbers of likely material from this. Items such as medal cards and soldiers records are held on microfiche/film and are readily accessible in the research rooms. The staff will guide you.

I assume you have already read the guidance given by Chris on this Forum's mother site - if not do so by clicking on 'mother site' at the top of the Forum.

I am sure other Pals will give more specific guidance but look out for 'the polo shirt' when you are at the PRO.

Guest Ian Bowbrick

John,

If you ever venture to Kew on a Saturday there is usually a posse of Pals about. If you can't find us straight away, we usually meet up at 1130 in the cafeteria for a chat and coffee.

ALL WELCOME!!!

Ian
