Hi

I have a "Protection Certificate and Certificate of Identity" for a Pte Francis Bradbury who was discharged from Lichfield on 26 Dec 1918 showing reg no as 14091 but noted " man states present number is now 63450"

I have searched MIC for him and the 2 numbers to see if entitled to any medals but no trace.

Why?

Could it be that he was never involved in active service?

It shows his dob as 1900.

Any help?

Hi,

Yes, it is quite possible that the reason for him having no MIC is that he never saw active service - either home service only or, for example, serving abroad as part of the Army of Occupation on the Rhine.

I have found about 30 men on a local roll of honour for WW1 service who enlisted in mid-1918 (presumably just turned 18) and served with the Army of Occupation on the Rhine - none of these men have an MIC. One of these men died while in Germany (July 1919) and so is listed by the CWGC, but he does not have an MIC.

Depending on when his birthday was in 1918, I would guess that he was to young to be sent overseas before the war ended, hence no medals.
