Guest Goughy Posted 14 June , 2005 Posted 14 June , 2005 I would be grateful for any help to identify the uniform of my grandfather in the attached photo. He was Walter George Johnson born in 1889 and lived in Selby (now North Yorkshire). Apologies for the poor condition of the photograph. My family seem to think he was in the RAMC, but on browsing through cap badges to compare to the photo - I dont think so - any help would be much appreciated.
Steven Broomfield Posted 14 June , 2005 Posted 14 June , 2005 Could be, but can you zoom on the badge?
Arthur Posted 14 June , 2005 Posted 14 June , 2005 Hi The badge looks like that of the Military Police! Regards Arthur
bernardmcilwaine Posted 14 June , 2005 Posted 14 June , 2005 you could be right,hes wearing a sam brown and hes only a cpl,bernard
Guest Goughy Posted 14 June , 2005 Posted 14 June , 2005 I've zoomed in on the cap badge and also included a full length picture if that helps. The connection with the Military Police could be there, as it was always said he was in the police force but didnt stay in long - not quite sure if that was after he had left the army. badge.bmp
Arthur Posted 15 June , 2005 Posted 15 June , 2005 essex and suffolk cyclist batt.bernard <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Bernard, Wouldn't the centre of the badge be filled differently if it was the Essex & Suffolk Cyclist Bn? If I recall it correctly the badge has a shield over a castle! Regards Arthur
Old Tom Posted 19 June , 2005 Posted 19 June , 2005 Hello, RMP is my guess, the pistol with cross (sam brown) strap seems to support the idea. Old Tom
