dplatt Posted 11 June , 2005 Posted 11 June , 2005 I found a first edition today. The title "Winston Churchill and the Dardanelles." There is a quote inside the book which has been handwritten:- "In war, the only prize for "Second Place" is ashes, tears and an acute hind-sight." It is signed 'Asdaf'. Further on in the book is a page entitled IN MEMORY OF LORD RIDDLE and, in the same pen as the quote, -"R. G. Ofs--Asdaf Garranbaum, Eire -1968-. Still further on, above the first photograph and, again, in the same ink and script it says "Aldershot Maneuvers - 1910" So, it looks like Asdaf is short for R. G. Ofs--Asdaf and that he (I presume it's 'he') was in the know as to what Churchill was doing in 1910. Now, who was he and what was the full name, please? I bet someone out there knows and that they will give me an answer before I shut down. That's how good I think the forum readers are Regards, David.
