SharonWitherden Posted 9 June , 2005 Posted 9 June , 2005 sorry not really WW1, but can anybody identify the ribbon as it's not the usual red, white and blue? It's an Edward VII coronation medal for June 1902, made of some lightweight silver metal. It has Spink stamped on it near the rim of the obverse side, which also shows King Edward and Queen Alexandra in profile. If it belonged to a relative of my Great Uncles, in whose house it was found, then in 1902 the owner would have lived in either Fazeley/Tamworth or Easthampstead (based on 1901 census data) - if that helps? thanks for reading. sharon.
johnreed Posted 9 June , 2005 Posted 9 June , 2005 This is not an Official issued medal to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII. The ribbon is of a central red stripe, with a wider dark blue stripe at each side, and a thin white stripe at each edge. John
HarryBettsMCDCM Posted 9 June , 2005 Posted 9 June , 2005 This is one of the plethora of Commemorative Medals struck by Spink & other Medallists for distribution to Schoolchildren as Mementoes of the Coronation, this design is a general one, some had the names of the presenting City/Town/Village even Business authority etc, some had ribbons others were suspended directly from the pin back clasp, they are made of a Lead alloy & consequently dent & damage easily.
SharonWitherden Posted 10 June , 2005 Author Posted 10 June , 2005 Thanks for the replies, it narrows down who the medal may have belonged to. Do the ribbon colours have any significance - as in for a specific town/place? Sharon
johnreed Posted 10 June , 2005 Posted 10 June , 2005 Try contacting Spink, perhaps they will give you more info. John
