Graeme Fisher Posted 8 June , 2005 Posted 8 June , 2005 Smethwick Library Archives have three pictures of a review in Smethwick Victoria Park, in October 1915, of the 148 Smethwick Heavy Battery RGA, raised by the Mayor of Smethwick, Lieut. T. W. Evans, under Colonel Meysey Thompson MP. Can anyone shed any light on this unit? There's nothing on the mothersite, and I'd not heard of a battery of gunners in Smethwick.
joseph Posted 9 June , 2005 Posted 9 June , 2005 Graeme, This will be a battery raised for the new army, like the Pals Battalions, it would have be renumbered on acceptance. Regards Charles
joseph Posted 9 June , 2005 Posted 9 June , 2005 Graeme, If you have a look in the 1919 paper there may be a jubilee parade which includes the Smethwick Battery. The RGA where much revered here in hull as they where the "Bomber Command" of the great war. Regards Charles
Graeme Fisher Posted 9 June , 2005 Author Posted 9 June , 2005 I'll try the local rag, thanks, Charles. Graeme
T8HANTS Posted 9 June , 2005 Posted 9 June , 2005 Hi Graeme Could this battery have become the 1st/1st London Heavy Battery, RGA, that my Gt Uncle was serving with when he was killed (see below), they never had a number that I have discovered and retained the title above. Gareth.
