LizM Posted 8 June , 2005 Posted 8 June , 2005 I am trying to do research Albert Bradford who won a MM and would like to know where he got this Medal. Bradford, Albert Lance Corporal South Staffordshire Regiment 1st BN Age 24 and dies 26/10/1917 Service No. = 32511 From Kirkby-In-Ashfield Hope someone can help me. Many thanks Jonathon
Stebie9173 Posted 8 June , 2005 Posted 8 June , 2005 Jonathon, Alberts MM was announced in London Gazette on 26-5-1917. 32511 Pte. A. Bradford, S. Staff. R. Since MMs were usually Gazetted around about 3 months after the event, that could place the action at the end of February, beginning of March. In early March 1917 the 1st South Staffordshire Regiment was involved in 7th Divisions actions near Irles, so that is a possiblity... On that page of the Gazette covering some of the "B"s and "C"s of the alphabet, there were 4 other South Staffs MMs, so it was possibly at a reasonably major action as above. Steve.
LizM Posted 8 June , 2005 Author Posted 8 June , 2005 Thank you very much for your quick response. Jonathon
Fred W Posted 8 June , 2005 Posted 8 June , 2005 The citations for the Miltary Medal were not usually given in the London Gazette. I suggest you look in the local Kirkby-in-Ashfied paper just after the date of his death. If this was reported it might also give details of his MM. You might also search the papers for the time just after you think his MM was awarded. Fred
