:blink: I'm trying to trace the details of an Ambrose Shurey , but his name MAY have been mis-spelt 'SHURETY' in his MIC entry. Can anyone please tell me , if his name has indeed been mis-spelt would this mis-spelling have been carried over into his records in WO363/364 , or would the correct spelling exist here ?

Many thanks ,

Steve .

Hello Steve

Is the name mis-spelled on the actual MIC or on the information given on the NA website. If you haven't downloaded the card it may just be a transcription error on the part of the people who put the website together.

If the actual card is mispelt then it is entirely possible that it was mispelt in some or all of his records,however,MiCs were sometimes Mispelt,& further cards entered{my second Cousin,X times RemovedSgt George Vanhinsbergh,17th London & KAR; has a 1914~15 Star Card{& the actual Star I might add}named up to "Vankinsbergh"The rest of his awards,DCM,BWM,AVM, & TEFM are all spelt correctly}

;) Thanks guys . When i downloaded the actual card this too was actually mis-spelt . One interesting point though was i think it was the 1914-15 star MIC card that i got - it was different to the others on the sheet , would there be another card ? The problem i have is that if his records are also spelt in this way , then it may not be a mis-spelling after all , and this may not be my man .

Steve.

Steve, if his medals had his surname misspelled they may well have been returned for correction by family. If so then a red ink ammendment will appear in the medal roll books themselves to that effect giving the correct spelling. This ammendment will not appear on the MI cards. This happened to my wife's Great Uncle.
