Guest Posted 4 June , 2005 Share Posted 4 June , 2005 I have just found my great grandfathers brother, Joseph PECK, via the CWGC website and would like to know if there is anyone who has any information on his unit before I venture to Kew! According to the CWGC he was a serjeant serving with 'D' battery 112th brigade Royal Field Artillery and his regimental number was 17089. According to his medal card he joined on 25th Sept 1915 and died on 27th July 1917. He is buried at the Menin Road South Military Cemetery so I assume he was involved in the 10 days bombardment prior to Passchendaele on 31st July. Any help would be greatly appreciated as he is the first of 4 family members that I will be researching during the Great War! Thanks, Jean-Marc
rflory Posted 4 June , 2005 Share Posted 4 June , 2005 Jean-Marc: 17089 Sgt. Joseph Peck enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery was born at Bow, London and enlisted at Stratford. He died of wounds on 27 July 1917. This means that he was wounded sometime before that date. 112 Brigade, RFA was part of the Divisional Artillery of the 25th Division and during July 1917 the division was in the Ypres area under constant enemy artillery fire and gas attacks. D Battery, 112 Brigade was under heavy artillery fire from 24 to 27 July 1917, loosing a number of officers and men during that period.
