Duncan Posted 5 July , 2003 Share Posted 5 July , 2003 Can anyone tell me how WW1 medals were issued. I have read that the newspapers would advertise when certain regiments medals were ready and the person would then have to write to the authorities to claim them. Also, on some MIC's I have seen 'Returned (1743 KR 1912) 8029/Adt', amy idea what that means ? Cheers pals, Duncan.
Muerrisch Posted 22 July , 2003 Share Posted 22 July , 2003 My understanding is that other ranks campaign medals were issued, officers had to apply.
Paul Reed Posted 22 July , 2003 Share Posted 22 July , 2003 Medals to Other Ranks were issued automatically, officers had to claim theirs. Medals to both officers and men who died were sent out automatically as well. The phrase you have seen on the MICs normally indicates the medals were returned as undeliverable. There are some other threads about this elsewhere in the forum. You can use 'my assistant' to find them.
