Remembered Today:

Historical weather

A while back I remember someone gave a site to find sunrise/sunset moonphases and weather from the past. Does anyone have the link to the site or at least the thread it was on?

This site is slightly easier to use. It also has a virtual display.

The last issue of "Shrapnel" (WFA-Belgium magazine) brings on page 41 an article concerning the weather (rainfall) during ww1 in the Belgian area of the western front.

I actually searched the site more last night and found the old thread that had this one and the US Navy one, but both are only moonphases. I am trying to find a record of the weather on given days. I do not have access to any diaries, so I was hoping to find a site. Maybe an almanac will do

Attached is an image of the 'wind roses' that were published in Foukles' book "Gas!". They represent 10 year (1905-14) summaries of wind directions and strengths on the Western Front.

'Passchendaele The Day by Day Account' gives details of weather for each day from 31 July to 10 November 1917. Let me know if you need any info from this.

The bibliography of the book makes reference to the 'Forecast Books of Colonel E Gold, Meteorologist to the BEF'. Maybe the Met Office at Bracknell can help.

Regards

John
