Sam Brown, Double straps, Pistol holster, Orilux torch, Ammunition or dispatch pouch Sword frog and retaining strap. What other items are there that can go on the Sam Brown ? apart from a compass. Andrew Upton Posted 30 May , 2005 Share Posted 30 May , 2005 Has any one got pictures of these objects i.e.: Periscope Pritchard-Greener trench bayonet to fit the Webley Mk VI Side bag Officers Wire cutter's in case I don't think officers would need to carry wirecutters specifically, although I've seen an example of a very strange tool that was like a swiss army knife but contained things like wire cutters, etc, and was carried on a leather hanger that appeared to be for the Sam Brown belt. If you can wait a few days, I can get some pics of my officers sidebag (unless someone beats me to it). As to the periscope, search this site for Beck and periscope, and a few hits should turn up - much the same on the internet for the Pritchard Greener trench bayonet should yield similar results. truthergw Posted 31 May , 2005 Share Posted 31 May , 2005 I don't think officers would need to carry wirecutters specifically, <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it was Siegfried Sassoon who goes on about the wirecutters he bought to take back with him. Much better than issue gear.

Andrew Upton Posted 3 June , 2005 Share Posted 3 June , 2005 Thanks Andrew for the link cant Imagine it would be that practical on a Pistol were the widely used?. Cant say I have ever seen one before. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Some sources say no more than 500 were made, but I've seen quite a few confirmed originals (bearing in mind modern reproductions do exist) for me to believe this figure. As to practicality, some accounts say they were unwealdy and useless, others attest that they were useful in a tight spot - take your pick.
