Hi Marc

I may be stating the obvious here but:

Have you tried looking for his service record yet? 30% chance it survived, but may be worth a go? That alone would have almost all you need to put a story together. Dates, Battalions, any wounds, etc ...

Or asking for the Btn War Diary, to try and find out what he may have gone through / seen? Thats assuming you know which Btn of the Leicesters he was in?

As for the Mtd Police, Im afraid I havent got the foggiest, but Im guessing they are a unit, so would have diaries too? If they prove to be that "specialised" their records may even be easier to access than that of a normal Pte in a "normal" Infantry Regmnt. Ask the experts mate - maybe under a new heading with that in the title?

What medals did he earn?

Am I right in thinking he survived, as you havent mentioned him falling in battle?

And another obvious thing - the medal rolls. They wil give you the battalion(s) of the Leicesters that he served with. Unlikely to give a police unit though. The MIC gives you the codes to the rolls.
