stevenbecker Posted 27 May , 2005 Share Posted 27 May , 2005 Mates, I have a bloke who reported service in the actions in South Africa during 1914 and 1915. He lists his unit as the Loyal Commando called "Thaba Ncha Commando". Can anyone put me in the right direction to confirm this either fighting in SA or the Commando he served in. The man is Maxwell Palmer and he was a aussie from Gundagai NSW. Cheers S.B
Peter Beckett Posted 27 May , 2005 Share Posted 27 May , 2005 Hi Steve, put Thaba Nchu Commando into google and you will be surprised at the results Peter
stevenbecker Posted 27 May , 2005 Author Share Posted 27 May , 2005 Mate Thanks, It was interesting to see in his AIF Army Service record that he was trying to gain the 1914/15 Star with his other medals for later service in the AIF in the ALH. But the aussie goverment wouldn't reconize the service in South Afrcia to qualify for the star. What they didn't do like happened to other soldiers who served with other countries was to get him to write to the South African Goverement to get them to issue one.
