oldbill Posted 24 May , 2005 Posted 24 May , 2005 Hi, anyone else seen one of these? Came with my great uncles medals. I saw one in the window of what was Cheltenhams militaria dealer in 1975 ish and wondered if it was local to the area. Has a small stamp stating silver.
Pte1643 Posted 24 May , 2005 Posted 24 May , 2005 Hi, anyone else seen one of these? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yep... It's a 10p piece. Oh... Like you didn't expect anyone to say that.
oldbill Posted 29 May , 2005 Author Posted 29 May , 2005 Yes well thanks for that, but surprise surprise having not seen another for 30 years one pops up on ebay item 6536080780!
Pte1643 Posted 30 May , 2005 Posted 30 May , 2005 Interesting. Still doesn't really say what exactly it is though. I'm surprised that no-one else has picked up on this thread. Mark.
michaeldr Posted 30 May , 2005 Posted 30 May , 2005 I see that it refers to “The Great European War” Is this unusual? I wonder if it’s American. Regards Michael D.R.
Jock Bruce Posted 30 May , 2005 Posted 30 May , 2005 Michael, the term 'European War' had some currency in UK ... as in Priestley, R.E. The Signal Service in the European War of 1914 to 1918. London: Institute of Royal Engineers, 1921. And since the UK takes prime place in the arrangements of small shields, I suspect it is British. Jock I see that it refers to “The Great European War” Is this unusual? I wonder if it’s American. Regards Michael D.R. <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
michaeldr Posted 30 May , 2005 Posted 30 May , 2005 Jock; nice to speak to you again and thanks for the correction As Holmes might have said to Watson Two things can be deduced from this Firstly, he is not a collector And secondly, his main interest is outside of France and Flanders Ah well It was only a thought Best regards Michael D.R.
