Ken Lees Posted 21 May , 2005 Share Posted 21 May , 2005 I have tried the Search facility, since I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread. I am looking for a list of the Theatre of War numbers used on the 1914-15 Star Rolls. Are they available anywhere online, of can anyone provide me with the list? Thanks in advance, Ken

GavinH Posted 21 May , 2005 Share Posted 21 May , 2005 Mark, The codes changed during the war, and these are the later codes. Earlier, 3 was Egypt, 4 Africa, 5 Asia etc, and these early codes are the ones found on MICs. Regards Gavin
Ken Lees Posted 21 May , 2005 Author Share Posted 21 May , 2005 Mark,Gavin, Bernard, Thanks for the replies. Can I assume that, apart from the three Gavin mentions, the others are the same as Mark's list? Bernard, I would be very grateful for a copy of the Capt Briggs photo. Thanks again, Ken
GavinH Posted 21 May , 2005 Share Posted 21 May , 2005 The 1s and 2s didn't change. There was no Russia on the early list. All the 4s on Mark's list would be 3s, all 5s would be 4s, all 6s would be 5s. There was also extra codes for Australisia. Regards Gavin

(Or is it "downdate"? ) Do the "Sub-headings" follow the same pattern? i.e. 3 Egypt. 3a Egypt between Nov'14 and Mar'16. Or does the earlier number 3 cover Egypt (4 Africa, 5 Asia) as a whole? Mark. GavinH Posted 21 May , 2005 Share Posted 21 May , 2005 I think the sub-headings remained the same. Unfortunately, I'm preparing to move house, and have started packing everything into boxes. I now have no idea which one contains my notes! I'm sure someone else will be able to confirm this, and give you the date the codes changed.
