Not a MIC as such, but I have a correspondent who sent me this (see below). Not having much of a clue concerning the RM's I'm hoping someone can translate where Ive put a ?! Thanks in advance!

WATERFIELD James William Registered No. 11983 Division Arty

Rank:

1. S+E \ STE ?

2. Gunn 2nd cl \ Gunn 2nd ch ?

3. Gunner

4. Act Bomb

5. Gnr

No. on Ship’s Books (what does this mean?)

1# 10 / 10

2# 10/ 39

3# 7 / 30

Also he is listed as 'In Desertion' from 10 June 1912 - 16 Sept 1913. What does this mean?

P.S. If this should be in the 'Ships & Navies' section, I apologise.

Oops. It appears that, by posting a reply to my own request, I have accidentally bumped this request back to the top. How silly of me.

Andrew,

I don't think that STE is a rank

but in naval or marine terms would be short for 'Shore Training Establishment'
