susanhemmings Posted 26 September , 2009 Share Posted 26 September , 2009 (It pisses me of that people in authority stand at the Menin gate with their reefs looking somber while a couple of miles away maybe one of the names engraved in the gate he is standing under is being ground to a pulp. I am certainly not giving up and we are looking for ways to have this bad law changed. We all owe these soldiers our gratitude, then at least what we can do is make some effort in return) I completely agree with that statement.................... Absolutely wonderful photographs Frans. Well done to all, special mention for John. phew what hard work. it's looking tremedous.. Susan.

Susan. couldnt agree more Susan, the fallen from all sides that the de diggers have found and brought in from the cold is amazing ok a lot not named but at least given a final resting place, And now with the de diggers not be able to carry out their splendid work many of the fallen will lie under tons of concrete and buildings lost for ever ,god rest their souls Tafski
susanhemmings Posted 29 September , 2009 Share Posted 29 September , 2009 I know it's not a tinkle in the Ocean of a consolation and should not detract from the sadness that they will be lost to recovery for forever, but I think that every single building that is erected on any land that has even a fragment of a chance of bodies being beneath it should bear a plaque on the wall stating such. At least in time to come the fallen will not be totally forgotten. Visitors to the building(s) should be reminded of what these men, irrespective of which side they fought on, gave of themselves for us all. God rest each and every one of their souls. - and thank God for De Diggers and what they have so far done for these men.
hudsonswhistle Posted 29 September , 2009 Share Posted 29 September , 2009 Well said Susan nice to see the chaps at it again ,But who paid for all the wood and labour ? please tell me its not the generosity of the diggers being abused.
frans Posted 29 September , 2009 Share Posted 29 September , 2009 Well said Susan nice to see the chaps at it again ,But who paid for all the wood and labour ? please tell me its not the generosity of the diggers being abused. The one thing we cannot complain about is how we are treated by The IFF and the city hall. We were given a good budget therefore enabling us to do a good job. Keeping in mind that all of us have jobs and it is our hobby. I should really say enabling John to do a good job. John puts many people half his age to shame. He supplied the drawings for the duckboards from the engineers and in the end laid the complete trench just about on his own. A true English bull dog.
