Keith_history_buff Posted 9 January Posted 9 January James Maloney was an old soldier, who reenlisted in 1914. He enlisted under the supplemental Special Reserve terms of service that were open to former soldiers. He enlisted in the South Wales Borderers, 14353, on 8 September 1914. He married Martha Ann at Crickhowell. on 13 Oct 1914. He was sent to the Western Front as a draft for the 1st Battalion, and was in that theatre of war from 26 January 1915 to 7 February 1915. Thereafter, he returned to the UK. On 11 August 1915, he was transferred to 1st Garrison Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, 33767, and deployed to Gibraltar thereafter. He was medically discharged on 28 June 1918. He was issued a Silver War Badge, the roll records his name as Mahoney His WFA document indicates that he died on 24 July 1918. His service record has survived, but Findmypast have indexed his name as Moloney. Keith_history_buff Posted 9 January Author Posted 9 January Although he reenlisted in Wales, in a Welsh infantry regiment, he was from North Parish, Cork. He enlisted in the 3rd Militia Battalion, and thereafter enlisted at Cork on 20 Dec 1893 under Regular terms of service in the Royal Munster Fusiliers, 4531. A Boer War veteran, he served 12 years with the colours, and four years in the Army Reserve Section D.

He died less than a month later on 24/07/1918. Whether or not this adds up to a viable case will depend entirely on his cause of death as stated on the death certificate.
