1DepotBat Posted 9 January Posted 9 January I'm not sure if this is the right place for my question, but here goes. I have a matching Gew88 with 2 different regimental markings on the bands. One is striked out and has been identified as 12 Reserve Regiment, Ersatz Batallion Company nr.4, weapon nr.239. The other is not striked out and indicates 36 Reserve Regiment 10 Company, weapon nr.121 It is likely impossible to know when the rifle was transferred, but are there any records to indicate where and when either of these company's saw action?
charlie2 Posted 9 January Posted 9 January If you have identified the Regiments correctly: Ersatz Btl RIR 12 was a training battalion and remained in Germany and saw no action. RIR 36 was raised and mobilised on 02.08.1914 and was subordinated to the 7. Reserve Division. The Division first saw action at the end of August 1914. Charlie
charlie2 Posted 10 January Posted 10 January If you scroll down there is a list of the major actions in which the 7.R.D. took part https://wiki.genealogy.net/7._Reserve-Division_(WK1) Charlie
