Romagne1918 Posted 30 September Share Posted 30 September Is this a WWI British field pack of some kind? It is unusual, in that it has an extra pouch on the front.
peregrinvs Posted 30 September Share Posted 30 September I don’t immediately recognise it, but the 2” webbing tabs on the back without brass tips suggest it’s no earlier than WWII.
DisasterDog Posted 1 October Share Posted 1 October The box-type lid, web reinforce on the back & triple drain eyelets are similar to some of the WW2-era wireless haversacks. Some sort of specialist equipment of that type, although I cannot positively identify it.

4thGordons Posted 1 October Share Posted 1 October As suggested - use of narrow buckles and general overall design strongly suggests WWII or later to me. I don't think it is officially part of the Pattern1937 family - but may well be associated equipment for carrying specialized equipment as suggested above there is another example HERE also unidentified In the immediate post war period the Dutch and the Danes (also the Israelis and of course India) used equipment based on P1937 sets with some lots of variations in packs etc so it may be one of those also. The Danish M45-50 ammunition pouches had additional pockets on the front also and the Israeli pack seem to have numerous variations. Chris

Chris The unidentified example you linked gives much clearer photos of the “strange bits” of material at the bottom corners, definitely a pass-through for some type of radio equipment. The whole thing is similar to the WS46 haversack, but shows some economy measures: https://talesfromthesupplydepot.blog/2023/07/20/ws46-wireless-battery-haversack/
Romagne1918 Posted 1 October Author Share Posted 1 October Thanks for the insights. It does bear many of the features of the WS46 haversack, to be sure.
