ralphjd Posted 28 September Posted 28 September Any help would be, as usual, very much appreciated. We have this man on our database Z/3249 RNVR Mersey Division, family known, dob known, service record seen, name on family headstone Newchurch Cem Waterfoot Rossendale, probate record seen New Ferry Wirral, BUT cannot find a death entry/location for him. Are we missing something obvious ? Ralph
ralphjd Posted 28 September Author Posted 28 September Thanks To a certain extent it helps but a burial place is missing. Ralph
horatio2 Posted 28 September Posted 28 September His entry in the RNVR Medal Roll shows an Index Casualty reference I.C. 1665/1919, so his death must have been reported to the Admiralty. It looks like a post-demob, nom-attributable death as he was not discharged invalided. The Death Certificate should confirm. His two medals were claimed by and issued to the Legal Representative of Father. There may be death-related paperwork in the ledger with his other RNVR papers (eg enrolment) which is held by the Fleet Air Arm Museum (National Museum of the Royal Navy). They offer a scanning service. Wirral newspapers may have covered his death and funeral.
ralphjd Posted 28 September Author Posted 28 September Thanks my friend. Very interesting indeed. Appreciated. Ralph
TullochArd Posted Friday at 08:15 Posted Friday at 08:15 The name rang a bell.....this earlier drew a similar blank regarding a grave site. I still have a note to follow this one up with the (microfiche) Rossendale Free Press of 1919 to see if there was burial. Missing burials in records are uncommon but not unheard of. I'll check in Feb 25 when I'm back in the UK.
